The subject-matter of the invention is a device for monitoring and signalling the continuing wear of carbon brushes in DC machines (4). In each case one contact (11, 13), which is prestressed by a spring and is pressed against a part which carries the armature voltage when the associated brush (1) reaches a predetermined wear level, is mounted on the brush holders (2, 12). Contacts (11, 13) which belong to brushes whose applied voltage is of the same polarity are connected to a monitoring and indicating arrangement via a common resistor (14, 15) with a series-connected decoupling diode or an isolating converter.
