PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic field generating coil enabled to generate high uniform magnetic field, enabled to be formed in a small type and light weight, and to consume low electric power by a method wherein flatnesses of the sections of the coils, the ratio of currents and the ratio of the radii of the coils of the inside coils and the outside coils of a four coil type static magnetic field generating constantly conducting coil are made to the values to satisfy the prescribed condition. CONSTITUTION:A high uniform magnetic field generating coil is constructed of four coils consisting of a pair of inside coils L1, L2 and a pair of outside coils L3, L4. When flatnesses of the sections of the respective coils are indicated by a/b, the product of the current and the number of turns of the inside coil in relation to the product of the current and the number of turns of the outside coil is by rc, and the ratio of the radius of the sectional center of the coil of the inside coil in relation to the radius of the sectional center of the coil of the outside coil is indicated by R1/RS, the next condition is made as to be satisfied. At the inside coils, a/b<=0.4, at the outside coils, a/b<=1, and 0.6<=rc<=1.0, 0.8<=R1/RS<=1.2. The coil is so constructed as to make the respective terms of the second, the fourth, the sixth of the Taylor expansion of a magnetic field in the axial direction at the center of the coil to be zero.
