PURPOSE:To allow an origination-side subscriber to leave a message for a termination-side subscriber when the origination-side or termination-side subscriber cuts off a call by providing a control circuit which starts the sound recording of the message by a sound recording and reproducing device when the termination-side subscriber returns a telephone receiver. CONSTITUTION:The telephone receiver is placed on its holder body 1 when the termination-side subscriber cuts off a call, and then the control circuit 2 controls a transmitting device 5 so that a message is sent to the origination-side subscriber and starts the sound recording of the message from the origination-side subscriber when receiving a message transmission end signal from the transmitting device 5. Then, when the originations-side subscriber leaves a message and cuts off the call, the sound recording of the message from the origination-side subscriber is stopped. If the origination-side subscriber is already disconnected when the origination-side subscriber lifts the telephone receiver from the holder body 1, the termination-side subscriber reproduces the message which is left by the origination-side subscriber through the sound recording and reproducing device 4.
