PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent magnetic recording medium which obviates oozing and sticking, etc. by incorporating polycarbonate polyurethane as an essential component and a specific ratio or below, by the total weight of a binder redin, of silicone oil into the binder resin for magnetic powder. CONSTITUTION:The silicone oil is incorporated into the binder resin consisting essentially of the polycarbonate polyurethane resin obtd. by the reaction between polycarbonate polyol and polyisocyanate at <=0.25pts.wt. by 100pts.wt. the binder resin nd the magnetic powder is dispersed together with a necessary dispersant, coloring agent, antistatic agent, etc. into such binder. The dispersion is coated on a magnetic disk substrate 11 to form a magnetic layer 12 thereon. A back coat layer 13 is coated on the opposite surface of the substrate 11. The layer 12 is otherwise coated on both surfaces of the substrate 11 or a surface layer 14 is further formed on the surface of the layer 12. The magnetic recording medium having good running stability and long life is thus obtd.
