Steel alloy having improved resistance to local corrosion

In order to improve the resistance to local corrosion it is proposed, for a steel alloy having the basic composition according to material No. 1.4539, to provide in addition a nitrogen content of from 0.10 to 0.20 % by weight and to reduce the sulphur content at the same time to less than 60 ppm. As a result of these measures, the pitting corrosion potentials (curves 4 and 5) are clearly shifted to higher values compared to the unmodified material (curve 1). <IMAGE>
