A guide frame (1, 1', 2) for sliding roofs of motor vehicles or tiltable sliding roofs is equipped with its own drive pinions (7, 8) for each cable (3, 4). These drive pinions are arranged in the two parallel legs (1, 1') of the guide frame. Therefore, the lengths of the cables (3, 4) which are stressed cannot experience any deflection and therefore no additional friction forces. The driving forces are lower than in known designs. In contrast with known designs, the central part (2) of the guide frame does not serve to guide the cables in a compression-resistant fashion. Therefore, the central part (2) can be designed essentially according to production criteria. <IMAGE>
