The protective goggles for welders are to make welding operations safer and quicker and to make continuous removal and putting back on of the protective goggles unnecessary. To this end, the dark welder's glass or a part thereof is made pivotable, so that it is possible in an instant to switch from closed welding glass to viewing slot, without having to take off the protective goggles. All operations associated with the welding process can therefore be carried out without taking off the protective goggles. A further advantage is provided in that a holding device is provided behind the welding glass to accommodate a pair of everyday spectacles or glasses of the welder. The unwieldy removal of the protective goggles so that everyday spectacles can be put on and taken off is no longer necessary. Finally, the frame of the protective goggles is provided with a holding device at the top and at the bottom, each to accommodate a protective shield, for use when welding upwards, for example. Holding of the protective shield by hand is no longer necessary as a result of this. The welder always has one or both hands free.
