PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which has excellent running durability even under low humidity and has further high corrosion resistance by providing a thin layer contg. a polymer having a side chain of which the terminal is a perfluoroalkyl group and a side chain of which the terminal is a polar group to a thin oxygen-contg. ferromagnetic metallic film. CONSTITUTION:The thin layer 3 contg. the copolymer of a monomer having a perfluoroalkyl group such as CH2=CHCOO(CH2)2C8F17 at the terminal and a monomer having a polar group such as COOH, OH, CONH2, phosphoric acid group, sulfonic acid group or CN at the terminal such as CH2=CH(CH3)COOH is formed on the magnetic layer 2 which is formed on a substrate 1 such as polyester film, consists essentially of Co, Ni, Fe, etc. and contains oxygen to allow gaseous O2 to be present in forming the thin metallic film layer, etc. The film 3 is formed by polymn. under electron ray irradiation, etc. after coating of the copolymer soln. or sticking of the monomer mixture. The magnetic recording medium having excellent running durability and corrosion resistance is thus obtd.
