PRODUCTION OF ALUMINUM CASTING INGOT

PURPOSE:To enable prevention of camber in the bottom of a casting ingot in a semi-continuous casting method for an Al casting ingot by disposing a separator of which at least the surface in contact with a molten metal is made of Al to the inside wall surface of a casting mold and pouring the molten metal therein. CONSTITUTION:The aperture of the water-cooled casting mold 1 is closed by a bottom plate 2 and a molten metal 3 is poured through a float nozzle 8 into the mold. The bottom plate 2 is lowered while a solidified part 4 is formed, by which the Al casting ingot is produced. The sheet-shaped separator 10 formed by covering the outside surface of a glass fiber fabric with Al foil is disposed to the inside wall surface of the mold 1 and the molten metal 3 is poured into the mold. The quick cooling of the molten metal 3 by the inside wall surface of the mold 1 is thus prevented and the camber in the base of the ingot is prevented. The camber in the bottom of the Al ingot is thus prevented and the production of the ingot free from cracking and run-out is thus made possible.
