NEW MATERIAL:A compound of the formula (X is C or S). EXAMPLE:4-(N,N-Diallylaminomethyl)-1,3-dioxolan-2-one. USE:Useful as a monomer for organic electrically conductive high polymers, further raw material for cationic or betaine type high polymers surfactants and high polymer flocculants and crosslinking agent and chain extender for various high polymers, and useful also as a polar solvent since the boiling point is high and the monomer is a liquid within a wide range in spite of a low melting point (<=-50 deg.C). PREPARATION:For example, 3-(N,N-diallylamino)-1,2-propanediol obtained by reacting glycidol with diallylamine and diethyl carbonate are subjected to reaction of ethanol removal to give the compound of the formula. As an alternative method, thionyl chloride is used in place of the above-mentioned diethyl carbonate to carry out dehydrochrorination and synthesize the compound of the formula.
