PURPOSE:To prepare a polysulfone having a high molecular weight and excellent heat resistance at relatively low temperatures, by the condensation of diphenyl ether sulfonic acid (salt with an alkali metal) in the presence of a specified solvent and condensation agent. CONSTITUTION:Diphenyl ether sulfonic acid (salt with an alkali metal) and/or diphenyl ether is made to undergo self-condensation or polycondensation at 80- 150 deg.C for 12-72hr in the presence of a solvent and condensation agent, obtained by mixing an organic sulfonic acid (e.g. methanesulfonic acid) and P2O5 in a molar ratio of 1:1-3:1. USE:Parts for electrical and electronic equipment, and for machinery, requiring heat resistance.
