PURPOSE:To produce a telechelic polyalkenyl ether of a sharp MW distribution, by polymerizing an alkenyl ether in the presence of a specified initiator. CONSTITUTION:An initiator is obtained by combining a compound of formula I (wherein R<1> and R<2> are each -H or -CH3, and n is a natural number) with HI and I2 in such amounts that the ratio of the compound to HI is 2:1-1:10 and the ratio of HI to I2 is 2:1-1:10, or by combining I2 with a compound of formula II(wherein R<3> and R<4> are each R<1>) in such amounts that the ratio of the former to the latter is 10:1-1:2. An alkenyl ether of formula III (wherein R<5> is R<1> and R<6> is an alkyl which may be substituted with a hetero group) is polymerized at room temperature or below in a solvent (e.g., n-hexane) in the presence of said initiator. USE:Surfactants, chemical reagents, antithrombotic materials, artificial leathers, etc.
