PURPOSE:To provide the titled remedy containing tropolone or its derivative as an active component. CONSTITUTION:The objective preventive or remedy for the diseases caused by the metabolic product of 12-lipoxygenase is prepared by using the compound of formula (R3, R4, R5, R6 and R7 are H, lower alkyl, OH, amino, lower alkoxy, halogen, mono- or disubstituted lower alkylamino, carboxyl or lower alkyloxycarbonyl) or its derivative (e.g. tropolone, hinokitiol, etc.) as an active component. It strongly inhibits 12-lipoxygenase, and suppresses the formation of its metabolic product (acts as a mediator to cause arteriosclerosis). Dose: 0.1-50mg of the compound of formula per 1kg dialy by oral or parenteral administration. It can be administered in the form of tablet, pill, powder, granule, capsule, suppository, injection, etc.
