A surface covering has its underside next to the surface to be covered. Opposite the underside is the visible top side. This covering consists of a plastics material and is self-adhesive on its underside. The plastics material is in the form of a web which is self-adhesive on its underside. It can also take the form of a three-dimensional structure which is self-adhesive on its underside or of mutually independent pieces.
