PURPOSE:To reduce the working distortion and improve the aging characteristic of an ultrasonic solid-state delay element, by using glass as the delaying medium and using a natural surface as the delaying medium surface which is parallel with the propagating direction of ultrasonic waves. CONSTITUTION:A delaying medium 5 is a glass plate pulled up by a floating system and the thickness of the glass plate is previously set so that it can be used for an ultrasonic solid-state delay element 6. The glass plate is cut to the size of a prescribed delay element 6 as shown by the alternate long and short dash line. Firstly, side faces are cut along longitudinal lines and, secondly, cut- off faces are cut at once. The side face which is used as the reflecting surface of the delay element 6 is cut, but flat surfaces 10 and 10' which are parallel with the propagating direction of ultrasonic waves are not prepared through any mechanical working process and natural surfaces formed when the glass plate is prepared by pulling up are used as the surfaces 10 and 10'. Then input-output convertors 8 and 9 are glued to the cut-off faces 7. When the delay element 6 is manufactured in such a way, the working distortion can be reduced and deterioration of its aging characteristic can be prevented. |
