PURPOSE:To standardize the inspection of the exit end of an optical fiber by fixing the end at a prescribed position and placing a photodetecting part composed of plural photodetecting elements at a position close to the exit end so as to measure the distribution of photo signals from the incident end. CONSTITUTION:The part of the optical fiber 1 close to the exit end 1b is fixed with a holder 5, and photo signals from the end 1b are detected with a photodetecting part 4 composed of plural photodetecting elements 6a-6d. The photo signals detected with the elements 6a-6d are sent to a signal processing part (not shown), and the levels are compared and added. Thus, a defect in the exit end 1b of the optical fiber 1 due to irregularity is detected, and the results of end processing are quantitatively judged.
