MECHANISM FOR GRIPPING OPTICAL FIBER CORE

PURPOSE:To grip surely an optical fiber core without damaging the same regardless of the shape and size thereof by feeding forcibly fluid into a freely expandable and contractable hollow cylinder which is formed of a thin rubberlike film and is inserted into a metallic pipe. CONSTITUTION:The thin rubberlike film 5 is inserted into the recess on the inside of the metallic pipe 4 having bent parts 4' at both ends. The film 5 consists of the freely expandable and contractable hollow cylinder and the fluid is forcibly fed therein through a pipe 8 from a fluid pressure generator 6 after the pressure thereof is regulated by a regulator 7. An optical fiber 2 is inserted into the pipt 4 before the film 5 is expanded and thereafter the fluid is forcibly fed therein to expand the film 5. The optical fiber is thus surely gripped without damaging the same and without being affected by the size and shape of the optical fiber. The efficiency for various terminal treatments of the fiber 2 is improved.
