PURPOSE:A rod of starting materials which is composed of Al2O3, MgO, Cr2O3, and Ti2O3 is melted according to the floating zone method and converted into a single crystal at a certain growing rate to give the titled single crystal free from bubbles with high clarity and good luster. CONSTITUTION:Al2O3, 0.1-0.2wt% of MgO, as an additive, 1.0-2.0wt% of Cr2O3, as a colorant, and 0.02-0.1wt% of Ti2O3, as a color adjustor, are thoroughly mixed, formed and sintered into a rod. Then, the rod is set together with a seed crystal in a infrared condensation type of floating zone system, heated to form a melt, from which a single crystal is allowed to grow at a speed slower than 2mm./hr. |
