PURPOSE:To vary easily and accurately the substantial guide number of flat light emission by making at least one of both a level and a time variable. CONSTITUTION:A main switching element connected in series with a flash discharge tube 14 is opened on the basis of a light emission stop signal generated when the quantity of light of the discharge tube 14 attains to a specific level and closed on the basis of a light emission restart signal generated a specific time after the generation of the light emission stop signal. Further, at least either of said specific level and specific time is made variable. Consequently, the light emission stop signal and light emission restart signal are generated repeatedly to emit impulsive light by the discharge tube 14 repeatedly during the shutter exposing operation of a camera.
