PURPOSE:To increase the number of picture elements per scanning without deteriorating the efficiency of use of cells by extracting picture information of original pictures deviated successively in the direction of arrangement of cells by plural image sensors arranged in parallel. CONSTITUTION:An original 4 placed on an original carrying platen 5 is irradiated by a light source 6, and an image of the original 4 is projected and formed on the light receiving faces of line sensors 2A, 2B by an image forming lens 3. A controlling signal is sent from a timing controlling circuit 8 to a line sensor driving circuit 9 to control the transfer speed of the two line sensors 2A, 3B, and at the same time, to control sampling timing of A/D converters 10A, 10B. Consequently, digital picture signals of light scanning-side line sensor 2A are sent to a buffer memory device 11, and digital picture signals of delay side line sensor 2B are sent to a buffer memory 12. Outputs from buffer memory devices 11, 12 are outputted in frequency twice as much as transfer frequency through a data selector 13.
