TREATMENT OF WASTE GAS

PURPOSE:To convert NO into NO2 and to absorb and remove the NO2 effective ly by the solid substance of the oxide of an alkaline earth metal by bringing the solid substance consisting essentially by the oxide of an alkaline earth metal into contact with waste gas contg. NOx at 350-500 deg.C. CONSTITUTION:A granular or powdery substance consisting essentially of CaO and MgO such as quick lime, dolomite, and blast furnace slag is used, and brought into contact with waste gas at 350-500 deg.C by a direct injection system or by using a packed bed. The NO which accounts for the greater part of NOx in waste gas is oxidized to NO2 under the catalytic influence of an alkaline earth metal, and the NO2 is absorbed by CaO and MgO. The HCl contained in the waste gas is simultaneously absorbed and removed.
