<p>The pylon is esp. suitable for carrying overhead and high-tension leads, individually or with several parts combining to form a frame or lattice structure. There are lengthways tube elements (12-14), narrowing in stages, with end section of a larger one covering the end of a smaller one at a predetermined interval. Intervening spaces are filled by an annular piece of non-metallic, non-shrinking material, clinging to end section faces to secure them together. Connection points between tube elements resist a range of stresses and moments; their interiors are not plugged or filled. This is inexpensive, with no welding involved in building a tapering mast.</p> |
