The light source of a warning beacon lamp is a halogen lamp 6 operating at below its nominal voltage and so spaced from polycarbonate or polysulphone globe 2 that the desired light flux is obtained but degradation or melting of the globe does not occur. Lamp 6 is mounted on and supplied with current from ring transformer 7 itself resiliently mounted on the bottom of housing 1 by means of rubber damper 12 which prevents vibrations in the beacon lamp support reaching lamp 6.
