PURPOSE:To change the construction of a thermal head for reduction in the cost by eliminating a glass glaze layer to prevent the destruction of a resistance heat generating body due to the movement of the concentration of alkaline metals during the thermal printing. CONSTITUTION:To reduce the cost, a ceramic substrate is converted into an aluminum substrate 1 to form an oxide film 2 on aluminum as insulation layer. As the substrate is made of metal and is excellent in the heat radiation property. And a convex is provided on the aluminum substrate to give such a shape to a het generating resistance section that it can print at a relatively low temperature. The oxide layer 2 can be obtained by hydrolysis from an organic metal compound, sputtering, evaporation or other methods. The most effective is the method to obtain the oxide film by anodizing of aluminum. The thickness of the oxide film shall be such as to impart an insulating property and is preferably more than 100Angstrom . The absence of any glass glaze layer eliminates the destruction of the heat generating resistor due to the segregation of alkaline metals thereby assuring better results in the printing quality. |
