PURPOSE:To increase the amount of elements substituted for expensive Sm without reducing the coercive force and to reduce the cost of manufacture by further substituting La for part of Sm in a 2-17 type rare earth element-Co magnet contg. Y, Pr or Nd substituted for part of Sm. CONSTITUTION:A rare earth element such as Y, Pr or Nd is substituted for <=20% of expensive Sm in a so-called 2-17 type rare earth element-Co magnet [R2Co17 compound (R is a rare earth element)], and La is further substituted for part of Sm to provide a composition represented by a formula Sm1-u-vRuLav TMZ (where R is at least one among Y, Pr and Nd, TM is Co-base transition metals, and Z is the ratio of TM to rare earth elements). The amount of the elements substituted is regulated so as to satisfy u+v<=0.65, and the amount of expensive Sm used is considerably reduced. The cost of the 2-17 type rare earth element-Co magnet can be considerably reduced without deteriorating the magnetic characteristics such as coercive force. |
