PURPOSE:The titled composition consisting of a polypeptide having physiologically activity and a slightly water-soluble base having water absorption properties, dispersible properly into the mucosa of the nose, capable of retaining in the attached affected part, absorbing efficiently the polypeptide when it is sprayed and administered to the nasal cavity. CONSTITUTION:A granular composition comprising a polypeptide having physiological activity, preferably a peptide hormone (e.g., calcitonin, insulin, or leuteinizing hormone) having 1,000-300,000, especially 1,000-150,000mol.wt. and 15 times as much a water-absorbing and slightly water-soluble base such as a cellulose (e.g., crystalline cellulose, crosslinked Na-CMC), or crosslinked vinyl polymer (e.g., crosslinked polyvinyl pyrrolidone) as the polypeptide by weight, wherein >=90wt% particles have 10-250mu effective particle diameters. When the base is used with 1-50wt% water-absorbing and easily water-soluble base, the base is provided to some extent with viscosity and fluidity, and sustained-release effect is produced. |
