PURPOSE:To enable the provision of reset mechanisms even in the increase of density by a method wherein reset mechanisms are provided one by one between accumulation capacitors so as to absorb an excess of charges of two adjacent accumulation capacitors. CONSTITUTION:In a solid-state image pickup device equipped with photo diodes P1-Pn are reset mechanisms R'1-R'n/2 absorbing an excess of charges of accumulation capacitors S1-Sn accumulating photo-generated charges excitated in these photo diodes P1-Pn, this device is constructed by providing the reset mechanisms R'1-R'n/2 one by one (e.g. R'1) between two adjacent accumulation capacitors (e.g. S1 and S3) so as to absorb an excess of charges of the two adjacent accumulation capacitors (e.g. S1 and S3) at the same time. In other words, the reset mechanisms R1-Rn are provided on by one between two adjacent accumulation capacitors of the accumulation capacitors S1-Sn. Accordingly, the number of reset mechanisms is R1-Rn/2 which is the half, and the pitch of reset mechanisms is twice of that of photo diodes, therefore, the increase in density is enabled.
