PURPOSE:To facilitate formation of prescribed recording bits and to decrease waveform distortion by extending the irradiating time of a light source 3 by a specified time when the recording bits are formed smaller than the prescribed size on account of defficiency of light source powder and when the waveform distortion is correspondingly high. CONSTITUTION:A data signal is applied to an input terminal A and is modulated by an MFM modulating code in a modulating circuit 1. The output signal is applied to a waveform distortion correcting circuit 22 from which the output extended in the time width of the level contributing to formation of the recording bits by specified time width DELTAT is obtained. Such signal is applied to a driving circuit 2 for a semiconductor laser and if the laser beam from the light source 3 is irradiated to an optical disk 10, the reproduction signal has decreased waveform distortion to permit formation of the prescribed recording bits thereby decreasing the waveform distortion.
