This device comprises a crosspiece 1, wheels 5 installed by means of telescopic shafts 2 to the ends of the crosspiece 1, the spacing between the wheels being adjustable by means of locking screws 3, a lifting bar 7 provided with a handle 18, and supporting a slide 7 provided with a locking screw 9 to which chains 11 for holding up the cover are fixed, an articulated prop 16 supported by another slide 13 installed on the lifting bar between the slide 7 and the handle 18 and rods 32 for holding the cover from below with a view to its transport, these rods being retractable by means of cable-type controlling means 31, 32, 23, 24, 25, 26 which are activated from the handle. <IMAGE>
