PURPOSE:To accurtely position magnetic heads to aimed tracks without using any servo disk and head, by setting the core center positions of the (n)th and (n+1)th magnetic heads and the center positions of tracks on recording surfaces facing to the magnetic heads so that the differences between the magnetic heads and tracks can satisfy a prescribed condition. CONSTITUTION:Each magnetic head H1-Hn and each recording track of a magnetic disk storage device 1 are arranged so that the differences deltan and deltan+1 between the core center positions of the (n)th and (n+1)th magnetic heads Hn and Hn+1 and tracks of the magnetic disk recording surfaces Dn and Dn+1 facing the heads Hn and Hn+1 can satisfy a relation that deltan+1=(deltan+W/N)modW (where, W is the track interval, N is total head number which is 3 or more, and mod is a modular function). Since a relation that deltanapprox.=(An+1-An-1)/2K (where, A is amplitude of data signal and K is the partial differential coefficient by delta) comes to exist, the magnetic heads can be positioned accurately to aimed tracks by detecting amplitudes An+1 and An-1 and moving a carriage 3 in the direction shown by the arrow 6 so as to reduce the deltan. |
