PURPOSE:A copolymer useful as an electroconductive polymer or a resin for adsorbing I2 or the like, prepared by polymerizing a cyclic ketene acetal with carbon disulfide. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer of formula I (wherein R1 and R2 are each H or a low alkyl, and n is 8-42). Said copolymer can be produced by reacting a cyclic ketene acetal of formula II (e.g., 4-methyl-2-methylene-1,3-dioxolane) with carbon disulfide at about 40-80 deg.C for about 10min-6hr, pouring the reaction mixture in a large excess of n-hexane after the reaction, recovering the precipitated rubbery substance and removing the n-hexane from the substance by heating. In order to prevent the acetal from being homopolymerized on the inner surface of a reaction vessel it is desirable that the inner suface of the vessel is treated with 3-triethoxysilylpropylamine, triethylamine or the like prior to the reaction.
