A filter has a filtration wall 2 with a front face and a rear face, and is normally penetrated by a medium in a direction from the front face to the back face, so that impurities, which are entrained by the medium, are separated at the front face of the filtration wall, and so that the cleaned medium can pass through the wall and into a space behind the filtration wall. The flow of medium through the wall is reversible, if required, in order to remove the separated impurities from the front face of the filtration wall, in order to thus clean the said wall. The front face of the filtration wall is provided with one or more elastic covering elements 9, which are moveable in relation to the filtration wall, and which are designed, on reversal of the flow of medium and upon elastic deformation under the effect of the flow, to be entirely or partially removed from the wall, whilst they act on the separated, adhering impurities in order thereby to facilitate the removal thereof. <IMAGE>
