Hydrostatic device used instead of conventional mechanical transmissions for remotely controlling the rudder(s) of a ship or of an aircraft. It consists of a transmitter E and a receiver R which may each have the characteristics of conventional jacks and which operate in a closed circuit. The displacement of the piston P1 under the action of a force external to the system, manual or mechanical, causes a proportional displacement of the piston P2 and vice versa. This reversibility enables the pilot to feel the forces exerted on the rudder(s). In addition, the movement of the latter is synchronised with that of the transmitter, by virtue of the lack of internal leaks. The device according to the invention may be used for controlling carriages on machine tools. <IMAGE>
