Process for the manufacture of gas-filled hollow glass pearls during which pearls are manufactured which have an alkali content of at least 20 % (calculated as percentage by weight of oxide). These pearls are next treated with an acidic medium and the alkali content of the pearls is reduced to less than 15 %. Finally, gas is diffused inside the pearls. These pearls are particularly suitable for the manufacture of explosives of the emulsion type.
