NEW MATERIAL:The p-(p-acyloxybenzoyloxy)benzoic acid ester of formula I (R<1> is methyl or phenyl; R is 1-8C alkyl or benzyl; when R<1> is methyl, R is not benzyl). USE:Useful as a vermin repellent and a plasticizer for polymers. It has repelling effect to hygienic vermin such as cockroach, termite, etc. Since the compound has excellent plasticizing efficiency to thermoplastic polymers, it increases the flexibility, elasticity and plasticity of the polymer, and has low volatility. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be prepared by reacting the p- hydroxybenzoic acid ester of formula II with p-acyloxybenzoyl chloride in a solvent such as toluene in the presence of an amine such as pyridine.
