PURPOSE:To reduce the consumption power of a pump by varying the discharge amount of the pump by selecting the number of operating chambers of the vane pump and the spool valves used. CONSTITUTION:The captioned vane pump has a noncircular cam ring 2, and has three operation chambers 18a, 18b, and 18c inside. Though into the operating chamber 18a, a suction passage 34 and a discharge passage 35 directly communicate, the communication to other operating chambers is performed through spool switching valves 30 and 32. Each spool switching valve is installed at one edge of a spool so as to shift by receiving the pilot pressure from the discharge passage, and when the discharge pressure increases, the operating chambers 18b and 18c are shurt-off from the suction and discharge passages, and the suction side and the discharge side of the operating chamber are short-circuited.
