PURPOSE:To make a pen tip hard to damage and draw a line of good picture quality by preventing the pen from sweeping up through a simple software program without increasing the force of the pen. CONSTITUTION:A wait time is provided to hold a pen-down signal ON until a pen-down solenoid 2 responds and the pen tip A begins to be lowered after the pen-down signal is turned ON. Then, the pen-down signal is turned OFF and a wait time is provided similarly. At this time, the wait times are set in consideration of the response time of the solenoid 2 and the descent acceleration of the pen tip A so as to prevent the pen tip A from reaching paper surface L0 when the 1st pen-down signal is turned ON. Then, the turning-ON operation of the pen-down signal, setting of the wait time, the turning-OFF operation of the pen- down signal, and setting of the wait time are repeated and when the final pen- down signal is turned ON, the motion of the pen 1 is so controlled that the pen tip A comes sufficiently close to the paper surface L0.
