PURPOSE:To obtain a juncture having an excellent transmission characteristic by connecting optical fibers in electric arc heat in an atmosphere of the inert gas to be ejected from a nozzle. CONSTITUTION:Connecting end faces 2A, 2B are first formed to the optical fibers 1A, 1B to be connected, then the fibers 1A, 1B are gripped by holders 3A, 3B in such a way that the faces 2A, 2B has a small space. The inert gas such as Ar is supplied through a conduit 6 to a nozzle 5 by operating a device 7 for supplying the inert gas and an electric arc is generated between electrodes 4A and 4B while the inert gas is blown to the faces 2A, 2B. The faces 2A, 2B are connected by the arc heat thereof. |
