PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound in high efficiency, by separating (2E, 6E)-farnesyl nitrile from (2Z/E mixture, 6E) or (2Z/E mixture, 6Z/E mixture)- farnesyl nitrile by distillation, reducing the nitrile, and hydrolyzing the product. CONSTITUTION:(2E,6E)-farnesyl nitrile of formula III is separated from the (2Z/E mixture, 6E) or (2Z/E mixture, 6Z/E mixture)-farnesyl nitrile of formula I or formula II by distillation, reduced with diisobutylaluminum hydride or the compound of formula MAlH(OR<3>)3 (M is alkali metal; R<3> is lower alkyl or aryl), and hydrolyzed to obtain the all-trans-farnesal of formula V useful as an intermediate of a remedy for hepatopathy, easily in high purity. The starting substance can be synthesized easily from the (5E) or (5Z/E mixture)-geranylacetone of formula V - formula VI. |
