For the operation of at least one plastics press for processing plasticated strand-shaped plastic, in particular contaminated waste plastic, emerging continuously from a plasticator, the strand is divided into individual portions, a feeding station assigned to each press being supplied depending on the material requirement of the press and, when the required filling amount is reached, first of all the press is opened, then the moulding is removed and the content of the feeding station transferred to the press mould and subsequently the press is closed; in the case of a plurality of presses, these presses are arranged along a conveyor for transport of the plastics portions and, when the required filling amount is received at a feeding station, the portions are discharged from the conveyor to the particular station preceding in the direction counter to the conveying direction.
