For separating a plasticated plastics strand, in particular obtained from contaminated plastics wastes, emerging from an orifice, a separating device has a knife which is movable in the opening cross-section of the orifice, the region surrounding the orifice being undercut with respect to the opening cross-section to form an empty space for the emergence of foreign bodies or plastics residues opposite to the direction of emergence of the strand.
