PURPOSE:To improve operation efficiency of a starter motor by interposing an eccentric gear mechanism in the transmission system of a starter motor and operating an engine with a relatively large gear ratio on the top dead center side, and with a relatively small gear ratio on the bottom dead center side. CONSTITUTION:When an engine 1 is to be started, the output of a starter motor 2 is introduced to the engine 1 through a reduction gear train 7, one-way clutch 8, and an eccentric hear mechanism 10. The eccentric gear mechanism 10 alternately operates with a gear train of a relatively large gear ratio r2/r1, on the top dead center side, and with the gear train of a relatively small gear ratio r4/r3, on the bottom dead center side, of the engine 1. Accordingly, on the top dead center side, where a relatively large torque is required, on a compression stroke, an input torque is relatively greatly decelerated and introduced to an output side, enabling a relatively large output torque to operate through a relatively small input torque. |
