Process and apparatus for rectification and/or stripping

A process is described for rectification and/or stripping in a column whose bottom part is heated and whose top part is cooled, heating and cooling being coupled together by a heat pump. To reduce the energy input, it is proposed that the heat pump is driven by the effect of the expansion of a gas or vapour and that the gas or the vapour, after the expansion, is used as the stripping gas in the column.
