PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal device which is easily produceable with good pattern accuracy, provides a uniform and vivid color effect and has approximately uniform color filter layers by providing the color filter layers consisting of the plural layers having the absorption wavelength characteristics different from each other within the plane of a substrate. CONSTITUTION:Three layers of photosensitive films 11-13 having different absorption wavelength characteristics are provided via intermediate layers 14, 14 on a glass base plate 1a. All these layers consist of gelatin into which silver halide, spectral sensitizing agent and color former are incorporated. Said films provide filter layers 10a for the transmitted light of exposing colors. Blue light is exposed by using an exposing mask having light transmission windows corresponding to picture elements 15 then the mask is shifted to the position of adjacent picture elements 15' and green light is exposed; further the mask is shifted and red color is exposed. Then, a negative image consisting of metallic silver is obtd. by monochrome development. The films are then processed with chemicals to obtain a positive image. Said image is subjected to color development to form colors. Silver is bleached and the color filter layers 10a are obtd. The vivid colors are obtd. if the liquid crystal cell is constituted by using such substrate.
