PURPOSE:To obtain the titled derivative having low dusting tendency and excellent redispersibility in water, economically, by preparing an oxycarboxylic acid- type cellulose derivative insoluble in water, separating into solid and liquid from a hydrated solvent solution, pulverizing in wet state, and drying the product. CONSTITUTION:The objective derivative can be produced by preparing a water- insoluble oxycarboxylic acid-type cellulose derivative (e.g. a carboxyalkyl methylcellulose, carboxyalkyl ethylcellulose, etc. having 1-5C alkyl group), separating into solid and liquid from a hydrated solvent solution (e.g. an aqueous solution of a 1-4C alkanol), pulverizing in wet state to <=100mu, preferably <=10mu without drying, and drying the product. USE:Effective for the preparation of a water-based enteric coating liquid.
