PURPOSE:To prevent ballast water in a ship sailing in the intense cold area from freezing, by introducing the compressed air through a branch pipe and then discharging it from the bottom of each ballast tank so that cold water in an upper layer is substituted with hot water in a lower layer with the use of convection due to ascending of bubbles produced by discharged compressed air. CONSTITUTION:Air is compressed by a compressor 3 and is then led into a compressed air reserving tank 4 from which air is discharged from the bottom of each ballast tank 5 after flowing through a branch pipe 6, due to the ascending of air bubbles produced by discharged air the convection of ballast water is promoted so that cold water in an upper layer is substituted with hot water in a lower layer. With this arrangement, it is possible to effectively prevent ballast water in a ship sailing in the intense cold section such as, for example, in the Arctic Ocean, from freezing.
