PURPOSE:To reduce waveguide loss by coupling three glass rod having an optical fiber embedded in a center part with each other directly or across an interference filter at a multiplexing and demultiplexing point for light at specific angles respectively. CONSTITUTION:Glass rods 1, 2, and 3 which has a quartz optical fiber 4 embedded in a center hollow part are used, and one-side end surfaces of the glass rods 1 and 2 are cut and polished at an angle theta2 to the length wise direction of the optical fibers and adhered together optically with an adhesive. The angle theta is the angle that the rods 1 and 2 contain. Consequently, the quartz optical fibers and quartz glass rods are heat-sealed sufficiently to realize low loss, and also heat-sealed to another quartz optical fiber to form a low-loss optical demultiplexer. |
