MOLTEN CARBONATE FUEL CELL

PURPOSE:To improve adhesion of electrolyte with an electrode and with a container, and increase cell performance by using an electrolyte stacked body prepared by forming an additional electrolyte layer which is formed by spreading the same kind of different kind of electrolyte material alone or the mixture with a binder on the surface of an electrolyte body. CONSTITUTION:An electrolyte stacked body prepared by forming an additional electrolyte layer on the surface of an electrolyte body comprising electrolyte material and supporting material. For example, electrolyte material comprising the mixture of lithium carbonate fine powder and potassium carbonate fine powder is mixed with lithium aluminate fine powder. The mixture is hot-pressed in a molding die. Both surfaces of plate-shaped electrolyte taken out from the molding die are coated with ethyl alcohol solution of fine powder of lithium carbonate and polyvinyl butyral. Ethyl alkohol is vaporized in a dryer to form an electrolyte layer and the electrolyte body is obtained.
