PURPOSE:To obtain the titled cationic binder for glass fiber having high adhesive strength to glass and excellent resistance to water and acids with lesser coloration and discoloration by allowing a dispersed liquid of a specified water- base copolymer to react with a silane compd. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of monomers consisting of (A) 50-99wt% (metha) acrylic alkyl ester having 1-18C alkyl, (B) 1-30wt% polymerizable monomer having functional groups, (C) 0-20wt% polymerizable monomer having basic nitrogen atoms, and (D) 0-40wt% other polymerizable monomers (where, the total of (A), (B), (C), and (D) components is regulated to 100wt%) are emulsion- polymerized in the presence of a nonionic emulsifier and/or a cationic emulsifier in an aq. medium to obtain a dispersed liquid of water-base copolymers. Then (1) 100pts.wt. said dispersed liquid (as copolymer) is then allowed to react with (2) 0.1-40pts.wt. silane compd. having a hydrolyzable group directly connected with an amino group or a silicon atom in the moledule to obtain the dispersed liquid of modified polymers which is used for preparing the binder as the essential component. |
