PURPOSE:To securely detect each color surface of a color ink medium, by a method wherein a sensor is provided for sequentially detect marks on a color ink medium as the medium is moved, the number of the marks and the interval of the marks are measured, and the color of an ink layer and a trailing end part of the medium are discriminated. CONSTITUTION:Thermal transfer is sequentially conducted while feeding a sheet form color ink medium 1 and a recording paper 2 in a sub-scanning direction in a pressed state between a platen 4 and a recording head 3 comprising recording elements for one line arranged in a main scanning direction. The sensor S for detecting the marks provided on the medium 1 is provided in the vicinity of the head 3, an output from the sensor S is read by a system controller 5 through an amplifier AMP, whereby the conditions of the color surface of the medium and the trailing end part of the medium are detected. The marks may be in the form of a bar code or other form which enables to identify the color on the basis of the number of the marks and to discriminate the trailing end of the medium on the basis of the interval of the marks. |
